Developer Teyon blasts out another title in the Heavy Fire series, this time featuring the battlegrounds of Afghanistan and wave after wave of hostile insurgents.

Pros:

In the shooter genre, there’s no question that the Call of Duty franchise reigns supreme. Especially with the latest release of the spectacular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, it’s easy to overlook other games made by the competitors. One of these is Heavy Fire: Afghanistan, a rail shooter that, while nothing spectacular, holds some pretty intense action and enjoyable moments for up to four players.

Stay sharp in this blisteringly fast-paced modern day shooter. Protect your team as you move from cover to cover, eliminating threats as they appear! Fight on foot or in a variety of vehicles including tanks, helicopters, and APCs. Utilize weapons ranging from handguns to mounted cannons and grenades to stay alive, keep fighting, and complete your mission.

The objective in Heavy Fire: Afghanistan Wii game is pretty simple: grab the biggest gun you have in your possession and lay waste to all enemies. There’s no strategic planning or team play necessary here: all you do is make sure to aim properly and let loose.

The game takes place in war-torn Afghanistan. You’re a marine stationed there, and it’s up to you to take part in a variety of missions that involve securing towns, smoking out insurgents, rescuing hostages, and blowing up the occasional war chopper. The game automatically leads you on a predetermined path, so free exploration is not an option. That won’t bother some players one bit though, because action is aplenty in Heavy Fire: Afghanistan. The moment the mission starts, waves of enemy soldiers come into view, take their positions on various points in the map, and fire upon you like crazy. You use the Wii remote to target your way and return fire accordingly. After you’ve cleared out one set of baddies, you advance into the next area and take on another. Repeat the process and you’ve got the gist of the Wii Heavy Fire: Afghanistan game.

Surprisingly, this mind-numbing repetition is quite enjoyable. You’re given an arsenal of firearms to choose from, including scenario specific heavy weapons such as shoulder-mounted missiles and gun turrets. Vehicles like helicopters, tanks, and trucks can also be ridden on some levels.

At the end of every mission, you earn points, rank, and awards according to your performance. Weapons and abilities can be unlocked and upgraded. Also online leaderboards are available for those who want a little extra competition.

The game plays like an old-school arcade shooter and doesn’t have any blood and guts flying around, nor is there any profanity. This makes it suitable for younger players who want a piece of the action. The four-player cooperative mode adds a much welcome touch to the game and allows you to enjoy the experience with friends or siblings.

Cons:

The game doesn’t really have a lot of depth involved. Although the action is extremely enjoyable, the entire campaign can be completed in a matter of hours, and there’s not enough core content to keep Heavy Fire: Afghanistan interesting other than playing it all over again with a new set of friends. Graphicswise and plotwise, the game is decent but far from spectacular. If it could be summarized in one word, “average” would fit it best.

Features:

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan can be played on the Wii using the standard Wii remote. Up to four people can play cooperatively and online leaderboards are available.

Conclusion:

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan is easy to overlook, but those who do may miss out on an intense arcade rail shooter. The experience is best played with three other friends in the four-player cooperative mode. The lack of blood and profanity also allows older gamers to play with their younger siblings in a rare moment of brotherly bonding as they team up to shoot at insurgents in virtual Afghanistan. Although Heavy Fire: Afghanistan can’t really be labeled as an instant classic, it’s decent and exciting, and those may be enough reasons to give it a try.

When it comes to learning and education in general, I have always been a firm believer in what some might call “sneaky learning.” After all, why should learning be so boring and dull when there are so many fun possibilities out there, with children not even realizing hat they are learning something. National Geographic has taken yet another step toward “sneaky learning,” but this time it comes in the form of a video game: National Geographic Challenge. Personally, I was hoping this is just one of the soon to be many titles that surface and redefine educational Wii games.

National Geographic Challenge! is an entertaining and exciting game for the entire family - and you can play in English, Spanish or French. Utilizing National Geographic's incredible archive of images and content, players explore the earth through geography and history, and begin a journey through the ages. Discover the works of Michelangelo, the secrets of the emperor Nero, the adventures of the great Caesar, the mysteries on the history of Charlemagne, the oddities of animal lives and the most bizarre geographical curiosities through five different play modes or just enjoy the unique puzzles in the mini-games. Sixty minutes of high definition videos, entertaining mini games, 4,000 different questions and high resolution images, which will take your breath away and allow you to discover the world in all its beauty, create a videogame which is unique and full of sheer fun!

What can players expect from National Geographic Wii? Essentially, this is a trivia game that features over 5,000 questions in both single player and multiplayer mode, and there are also fifteen types of quizzes, which range from true or false, anagrams, higher or lower, memory, fast focus, observation, odd one out and many more. The multiplayer mode allows you to play with up to four people, which means it is also a really good candidate for family game night.

This title offers a pretty promising premise as far as methods to discover, learn and play; the possibilities are endless here. I actually thought it would work really well in my case; I have a twelve year old cousin who loves wildlife and nature as much as I did at her age, so what better way to indulge in that common love while still learning a great deal than National Geographic Challenge?

Though, aesthetically speaking, the graphics are gorgeous, intriguing and exciting overall, the game kind of grea a little stale as far as fun goes. It was possibly made worse by the fact that I had such high expectations going in, making it all the more disappointing when I finally sat down and played it. It is not that the game is inherently bad, but many of the games were a little boring and did not really engage our attention. The puzzles were somewhat fun, but again, they lacked real engagement. Some were actually too difficult for the children to enjoy due to small puzzle pieces being difficult to maneuver.

To be honest, it also seemed to be a bit disjointed overall. Again, I am not saying that it is a bad game, but it definitely did not live up to my expectations. If anything, I would certainly recommend that you rent this game to try it out before going to make a purchase. I am hoping that National Geographic tries their hand at making a fun Wii game again in the future, but I also hope they take a little more care at making it fun and engaging.

People who really enjoy dancing certainly do not see a shortage in available games to play. Those who happen to also have an affinity for ABBA can enjoy a new Wii game called ABBA Dance Wii. The game’s developer, Ubisoft, admits that this is not a game for everyone — the dancing tribute to the iconic and famous Swedish quartet is said to be a good “girls’ night in” sort of indulgence, so it is not something designed for the kids or your male friends after the Sunday football game.

However, if you have a glass or two of bubbly, you might just have Wii ABBA Dance become your next big thing.

From the creators of the award-winning Just Dance franchise comes ABBA You Can Dance. Featuring 26 timeless songs, including “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” “Fernando,” “Waterloo,” and “Take A Chance On Me,” ABBA You Can Dance invites you to unleash your inner dancing queen and hit the dance floor with one of world’s biggest music sensations. Dance with up to four players or join in on vocals; ABBA You Can Dance is unforgettable fun for friends and family of every generation.

Along with the obviously required Nintendo Wii, you will need quite a bit of room to move your body. This title comes complete with twenty-five different songs, each one of which coming with a professionally choreographed dance routine and a suitable environment that appears on your television screen. If you were curious, here is a little trivia to ponder: The segment for the “Waterloo” song is inspired by the first appearance the band made at Eurovision.

Other famous ABBA songs that come in the game include “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” “S.O.S.,” “Money, Money, Money,” “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!,” “Super Trouper,” “I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do” and — for even the non-ABBA fans, of course — “Dancing Queen.” As an added bonus, each of the songs in the game come along with vocal tracks so you can sing along in a solo, duet or even quartet mode.

As a very loose sort of “plot,” you can also take part in a mini-musical mode, which allows you and some friends to take on the role of lovebirds in a short story that lets you sing a number of different hits by ABBA. Think Mamma Mia, but much more condensed.

How does it work? As you dance and sing to the songs, you also have to watch colorful silhouettes moving on the television screen. While holding onto your Wii remote, you just need to match the moves that appear on the screen. The console determines where your arms are located and give you a score that varies based on how closely you matched the move. In other words, just like any other Wii dancing game.

This is certainly a good game to play with your friends — it really is the epitome of “the more, the merrier,” though. However, that does not mean you cannot enjoy it yourself. Obviously, ABBA fans will get the most out of this, and if you happen to be one, I couldn’t recommend this game any faster.

I’m very aware of the debate between digital and traditional board games, and I’m personally a fan of both. Does it sound like I straddle the fence? Sure, but it’s true. Not only does my family play traditional board games, but we’ve been known to take it to the console as well because it works, just like Fortune Street Wii.

Thanks to Square Enix and Nintendo, Wii Fortune Street is finally reaching the United States. For those who do not know, this is a game that is like Monopoly but with so much more. For example, the boards are never the same — the random factor always leads to a huge replay value. For best results, starting with the tutorial would be a great idea.

This title has all of the polish and shine that most Nintendo games have; the game looks great and features plenty of comic mischief. If you have previously played Square Enix and Nintendo titles, you will even find a few iconic characters, but I will let you find them on your own. Also, you can play the game using your Mii to represent you.

Fortune Street is a game that will have you laughing as you play, because the characters always have something witty and timely to say throughout the game. For example, one particular character noted how they really did not need to give me any more money after landing on my property, which added realism to the board game factor.

In all, you can play on fifteen different boards, which is like getting fifteen games in one package. Like the real thing, games can last awhile, especially if you play on a larger board. Luckily, whenever it reaches your turn again, you can select the “Save” option to record your progress and return to it at any time.

One thing I really enjoy about playing Fortune Street is the ability to choose whatever direction you want to move your piece. Because of this, there are several different paths to achieving ultimate victory. For example, not only is it important to upgrade your property, but you can also consider the path of forcing your opponent to sell you his property when you land on it. If nothing else, this adds some additional strategy that you wouldn’t find in Monopoly.

Overall, this is an excellent representation of an excellent game, and it shows that even educational games like this, which give off good financial lessons, can bring together a family with plenty of fun. I’m hoping this franchise takes off and sees the concept expanded. This title shows there are many ideas for board games that would fit well as a Wii video game title.

The original Zumba Fitness was a sweat-laden dance fest that involved following the moves of an onscreen, animated dance instructor who consistently yelled various words of encouragement to keep your body moving as you did a variety of dance routines from different genres. Due the commercial success of the title, Majesco Entertainment decided to release it sequel Zumba Fitness 2.

Three million players and counting have already discovered the exhilarating Zumba Fitness interactive video game work out. Following the worldwide best-selling original, Zumba Fitness 2 builds on that phenomenal success while elevating the exer-game category to a new high of fun, effective fitness. This cutting-edge experience layers in loads of new features and improvements, amps up the dance-fitness party and gives you even more ways to sculpt your body and party yourself into shape. Get ready for the sleek, sexy physique you've always dreamed of!

The first thing you’ll notice about Zumba Fitness 2 is the neat Zumba Fitness belt that comes with the game. The belt goes around your waist and can be adjusted using its Velcro straps. Once it’s snugly in place, you then fit the Wii remote into a compartment in the belt, allowing you to dance hands-free. This is a nice addition if you hate carrying the Wii controller in your hand every time you let loose.

The Wii Zumba Fitness 2 game is much improved from its predecessor. It now contains crisper animation so that you can follow the moves quite clearly. The game also has licensed tracks from various artists such as Pitbull and Nicole Scherzinger. The types of dance routines you can gyrate to include meringue, pasodoble, cumbia, samba, axe, Indian, Latin pop, and belly dance.

Mostly, you won’t care about the names of the dance routines as long as they’re cool to perform. Thankfully, they are. The Zumba Fitness 2 Wii game was created with the help of various professional dance instructors who provided choreography and direction to the steps. You’ll find yourself really digging the routines. Add to that the constant encouragement from the virtual coaches and you’ll soon find that it’s hard to stop dancing.

In case you need some practice, Zumba Fitness 2 has a tutorial mode where you can learn the steps before you do a full routine. There are a total of 32 routines across the various dance genres, and most of them are designed to make you lose fat as quickly as possible. Other modes include Single Song where you can select any track you like and dance along, Zumba Class where you dance nonstop in 20, 45, or 60 minute chunks, and Zumba Party which involves cooperative dancing with up to 3 other players. There are also some minor health statistics and metrics within the game like the number of calories burned and the total number of hours played.

Cons:
Graphicswise, the game doesn’t really have any breathtaking visuals. Other than the dance instructors, the locales are backdrops are quite limited and are not much too look at.

The main problem with Zumba Fitness 2, however, is the inaccurate motion sensing. The addition of the belt is a nice touch to keep your hands free, but the Wii doesn’t properly register your movements. This wouldn’t really matter if you’re only interested in dancing, but it gets annoying when you don’t receive the appropriate response even though you performed the steps correctly. Furthermore, there are some moves that involve bending over which could lead to the Wii remote dislodging from the belt and clattering loudly on the floor. A cracked Wii remote is never a good thing, but it will stay attached to your person as long as you don’t over gyrate.

Features:
Zumba Fitness 2 can be played on the Wii console using the standard Wii remote. The game comes with a Zumba Fitness belt that is used to hold the Wii controller and leave your hands free during gameplay. There are also multiplayer modes available.

Conclusion:
Zumba Fitness 2 plays more like a virtual fitness class than a dance game. It’s primarily meant to help you lose weight, and this goal is delivered solidly through various dance workouts that will make you sweat buckets of perspiration as long as you perform them seriously. However, if you’re looking for a party game for some group laughs, the Just Dance franchise is the thing for you. Those who want a more serious game that teaches some heavy dance moves you can bust out in a club might prefer Dance Central instead. For the rest of you fitness buffs, you’ll find what you’re looking for in Zumba Fitness 2.

The long awaited Need for Speed: The Run puts you once again in the driver’s seat as you evade the mob, get chased by cops, and participate in a grueling cross-country race from San Francisco to New York.

The Wii Need for Speed: The Run game has been a long time coming. It’s been in the works since Need for Speed: Undercover was released in 2008, and the TV ad campaign for the game near its impending debut even had Michael Bay as the director. While the hype and the directing skills of Michael Bay can be called overwhelming, the game, unfortunately, is not.

It's called The Run. An illicit, high-stakes race across the country. The only way to get your life back is to be the first from San Francisco to New York. No speed limits. No rules. No allies. All you have are your driving skills and sheer determination as you battle hundreds of the world's most notorious drivers on the country's most dangerous roads. In Need for Speed The Run, you'll weave through dense urban centers, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds, all the while evading a relentless police force prepared – and willing – to use lethal force to take you down.

The storyline of the Wii version is slightly different from those of the other consoles, but nonetheless all of them follow the same general plot. In the Wii version, you play as Matt, a poor soul who has found himself on the bad side of both the police and an organized crime syndicate. What he did to arrive in this hopeless situation is never fully revealed, but the game begins by showing Matt locked in a car and pushed over a bridge onto the water below by some thugs. He escapes by breaking the car window and is greeted on dry land by a smoking, red-haired babe who then lends him her car and takes off with him. They then join “The Run”, an illegal race across the country with an enormous prize money.

In terms of gameplay, Need for Speed: The Run certainly knows its stuff. Racing is exhilirating and challenging, involving numerous twists and turns, hidden shortcuts, rival drivers, and the occasional cop cars that try to block your path. The now familiar nitrous oxide is present once again so that you can unleash its accelerating energy and leave everyone in the dust. In addition, stunts can be performed when your car hits an inclined plane and you go airborne. The feeling of speed is also well-simulated, making the surroundings appear blurry the faster you go, and leaving a streak of your taillights behind.

The game starts you off in San Francisco as you wind your way through the streets and eventually race on the Golden Gate Bridge and beyond. The wonderful thing is that numerous real-life locations and roadways are present including The Rockies, Yosemite National Park, and New York City where the culminating battle is held. You begin in last place as the 150th driver and slowly make your way to first in the events and races that follow. Usually, they involve the same old Need for Speed style where you race alongside other drivers in various locations – often with heavy city traffic – and occasionally come across police cars who try to stop you. However, there are also other modes such as versus battles with a rival.

Cons:
Unfortunately, Need for Speed: The Run Wii game lacks enough content to really stand out. The storyline is generic, and the manner in which it’s told involves comic book panels that have cheesy voiceover dialogue. The soundtrack mostly contains lots of fast paced beats and synthesizers. It provides the necessary background noise to keep your heart racing, but it’s far from spectacular. You also receive various car models as you progress, but the lack of customization features is depressing, especially for a Need for Speed title.

Races are straightforward and exhilarating, but it gets repetitious soon, even with the different track locations. Unfortunately, (or should I say fortunately?) the game is short and can be completed in a few hours. Once the campaign is over, various challenges can be undertaken for extended play, but overall the game doesn’t hold up well for long term entertainment.

Features:
Need for Speed: The Run can be played on the Wii console with the standard Wii remote or Nunchuk. There is no online play available for the Wii version, but it has multiplayer split-screen.

Conclusion:
Need for Speed: The Run is an above average racing game, but as a title under the Need for Speed banner, it pales in comparison to other games in the franchise. Although it does offer new options and innovations, and the action can be quite intense at times, the game can be completed in a few hours and has little to offer in terms of extra content. You might want this to complete your Need for Speed collection, but we’ve certainly seen better ones before this.

Rayman is back and better than ever! This 2D platformer will delight gamers of all ages and silence critics who claim that old-school side-scrollers no longer have a place in today’s modern consoles.

Those twenty years old and above may be familiar with Rayman, the lovable brainchild of designer Michel Ancel, who made its self-titled debut in 1996. Rayman quickly became a runaway hit, winning multiple awards and becoming the highest selling Playstation game of all time in the UK. However, that was way back in the day when side-scrollers were all the rage. Can Rayman Origins for the Wii manage to dazzle players with its 2D magic despite being in a 3D-exposed gaming generation?

Michel Ancel, celebrated creator of Rayman, Beyond Good & Evil and the Raving Rabbids returns to his roots to bring us Rayman Origins: an all-new 4-player co-op comic adventure set in a lush, 2D world, teeming with unexpected secrets and outlandish enemies.

Miraculously, the answer is a resounding yes. In fact, Rayman Origins puts to shame many of its modern contemporaries with its simplistic but stylistic hand-drawn graphics, lighthearted gameplay, addicting collectibles, and challenging difficulty.

The story starts off with Rayman and his friends taking a nap in the Glade of Dreams. Unfortunately, their loud snoring disturbs the dark denizens in the Land of the Livid Dead right below them, and Rayman and his pals are subsequently captured and their world invaded. As Rayman frees himself from his cage, the quest to hunt down the bad guys and free the captured Electoons begins.

From this simple premise, the adventure begins. The Wii Rayman Origins game utilizes standard platforming gameplay wherein you jump and navigate yourself out of traps and obstacles. Rayman has a variety of abilities that slowly improve as you make your way into the game. In the beginning, you can only do basic movements like jumping and running, but as you progress into more difficult levels, you’ll soon gain other skills such as being able to run up walls, glide in midair, and shrink yourself down to size.

The basic objective is to make it all the way across the level from left to right, collecting various objects in your path – like the golden coins called “lums” – until you make it through to the end. There, you’ll usually have to face a boss battle and eventually free the captured Electoons. The Rayman Origins Wii game also has a shooter portion wherein you ride on top of a giant mosquito and blast enemies away.

Rayman Origins shines in its graphics, which are spectacular to behold. Despite being in 2D, the backdrops and atmosphere of the various levels are extremely colorful and well-designed. From the lush trees of an ancient jungle ruin to an underwater cavern teeming with strange marine life, the visuals are so varied that you’ll rarely find recycled artwork. Furthermore, they are drawn in such a unique manner that it makes you want to pause the game just so you can admire the scenery.

In terms of audio, Rayman Origins also comes through with flying colors. The characters have virtually no dialogue and only utter a bunch of cute gibberish grunts and squeals, but it allows the storyline to flow quite naturally. The sound choreography is also expertly created to fit the different moods of the levels.

Rayman Origins has a drop-in drop-out coop mode where up to four people can play at a time. The game’s difficulty is decreased since there are now three extra people to help out, but Rayman Origins compensates by making play more chaotic, allowing you to hinder and hit your buddies ingame.

Controls are extremely tight, and the Wii senses all your actions accurately. The game can be played Nunchuk style or in standard horizontal position.

Cons:
There are virtually no downsides to this game other than the occasional frustration when you find yourself stuck at a particularly difficult platforming and puzzle section. However, the game comes up with a nice solution in the form of numerous checkpoints that allow you to pick up right where you left off, saving you the trouble of having to repeat a level from the beginning in case you lose a life.

Features:
Rayman Origins can be played on the Wii using the standard Wii remote. It has a cooperative multiplayer mode for up to four people.

Conclusion:
Rayman Origins is one of the best games on the Wii. You don’t often hear praises about the Wii’s graphical capabilities, but this game has such incredible 2D visuals that it would make anyone do a double take. With an engaging storyline, multiplayer coop, solid gameplay, and tight controls, Rayman Origins proves that platforming side-scrollers can still take on the best of them.

With the advent of the Nintendo Wii back in 2005 and all of its abilities, it was inevitable that the market would be flooded with Wii accessories. In particular, Wii uDraw Studio Instant Artist requires — as the very name of the game implies — a uDraw GameTablet peripheral accessory. This is because it is an art software program video game that allows its users to draw or write on the tablet using its thick stylus.

From artists of all ages to art styles that are classic or street-inspired, uDraw GameTablet and uDraw Studio: Instant Artist offer limitless variety and infinite ways to play.

It is important to note that those who have never used a tablet before — such as with their computer — might find it difficult to use the uDraw GameTablet at first. This is because it does not come naturally to learn how to look in one place while drawing or writing on another surface. Some problems also exist with the tablet, because the cord is a little bit shorter than would be desired. This sometimes leads to the stylus not winding up exactly where you want it to be. Luckily, the tablet can be used successfully with any other video game that features the uDraw logo.

As far as uDraw Studio Instant Artist goes, there is plenty of educational value for children. One of the more important things for children to learn that they may not get enough exposure to in school is art, and this game is certainly one way they can learn about it. This includes a wide range of subjects, from the various palates and tools to shading and learning about warm and cold colors. As the game is designed to help kids embrace their creative and artistic sides, there is also a positive message here.

Despite some troubles, it is not too difficult to figure out how to use the tablet after awhile, though there is the learning curve as mentioned earlier. While it will take some time to learn how to control your hand while watching your design appear on a different screen, you gain better control with a very thick stylus — just beware of the sometimes short cord. The instructor that appears onscreen is very calming and patient, so you never feel troubled for not getting a grasp on the tablet right away.

Finally, you are able to save your creations and upload them directly to the online community that uDraw features, and you can also choose to print out your art or share it on Facebook by way of the website. If you want to, it is also possible to showcase it to the public in the online community or you can just set it to private viewing only.

Overall, the game is pretty fun as it is just a digital form of drawing and coloring. Think a modern day Mario Paint, but without the music creator. This would be an excellent purchase for any family.

For whatever reason, The Oregon Trail in its many, many different incarnations, whether that be on the Apple II or one of the later versions like the library of Wii games, is a game that American gamers just can’t seem to stop playing. Whether it’s because it’s a simple management of resources, a balanced system of risk and reward or perhaps it just really is a good game; it could always be because the teachers wouldn’t yell at you for playing it at school, so your young self really thought you were getting away with something.

While the Wii Oregon Trail is not quite the same game that we all played over the last 40 years — personally, I only had my hands on it sixteen years ago when I was in first grade — it is still a game that is bound to educate the younger generation while still having the same element of nostalgia to rope the rest of us into the idea. Just like the umpteen versions that game before it, Oregon Trail Wii has treacherous dangers, with wild animals, dysentery, cholera and rough terrain to contend with.

The actual gameplay is basically a group of mini-games. As you travel down the 2,000 mile road of disasters, you must balance speed to minimize injury; if you go too quickly, you will injure a family member or break your wagon, but going to slowly forces you to fall behind and contend with the cold winter. You can pick berries if your food is low, which has you play a Whack-A-Mole-esque mini-game, or you can play the hunting mini-game that has you destroying cute rabbits and making your queasy stomach long for some berries. All the mini-games have levels, so every so often you will see an increase in difficulty.

There are still simple and fun elements of resource management. Whatever occupation your character is will determine how well you are at maintaining certain resources, such as how long a certain quantity of food will hold up and whether the wagon will fall apart more easily. You can pick your path and purchase equipment in the town shops to try and make your journey as smooth as possible, adding some upgrade elements and an overall strategic look on the game.

Just like the DSiWare and iPhone incarnations before it, the Wii version of The Oregon Trail has certainly carried over, carrying a bit of a cheery outlook to what is actually a pretty dark game when you boil it down to the basics. Just like the previous versions, there are still quite a bit of load times, and it can pop up just about anywhere, though they are shorter due to being able to use the Wii hardware.

Overall, the game still holds up great 40 years later, which is a great feat considering how quickly most other games get old when you constantly repeat them.

Saying it makes me feel a little old, but the Power Rangers have really grown stale over the last umpteen years since the franchise begin — 1993, if you were curious. Perhaps this has become common knowledge since they keep trying to reinvent themselves, with the latest change being Power Rangers Samurai, a television show that is apparently popular enough to warrant a video game from Namco Bandai called Power Rangers Samurai Wii.

Go Go Samurai! A new generation of Rangers is here for the Nintendo Wii & DS! Practice the mysterious Samurai Symbols of Power, activate your Ancient Samurai Sword Discs and become your favorite Power Ranger Samurai! Use your special powers & weapons to battle the evil forces of the netherworld. Use teamwork to join forces with your fellow rangers and become Samurai Megazord for epic boss battles! Rangers Together, Samurai Forever! Power Rangers Samurai video games for Nintendo Wii & DS.

One positive thing about the game is that the character models are realistic looking, and you can even see realistic image projection from the show itself. However, the enemy character models fall into the same problem that many beat 'em up games have: far too much repetition. Once you see an enemy, you can expect to see him again and again and again. And again.

As far as gameplay is concerned, there is heavy violence that will not be suitable for very young children. In some parts of the level, you are stuck in a room where you are required to injure all of the enemies in the room before you can move on to the next part. However, fighting the standard enemies are generally pretty easy as you work your way to the boss, where the real challenge lies.

There is no way to get lost in each level as there is just one main path. You can branch off into side paths that contain additional hidden items, but they eventually become dead ends, meaning you need to backtrack and resume the main path.

One of the challenges occurs with character control. While the controls are normally very quick for each character, there are problems trying to get your Power Ranger behind the boss and hitting him in the back. This is due to the fact that the character starts out swinging away from the boss, which is just incredibly frustrating. Other times, he would manage to hit you at the same time you hit him, which basically cancels the attack and causes you to take damage. However, a second player can join in, which helps greatly with the battles.

Overall, the game is decent enough, with the only real complaint being unnecessary difficulty for bosses. It makes sense in other games of its genre; these kinds of games would originally be in the arcade and would be designed to force you to die and insert more quarters to continue. However, as it is just a recent release and arcades are essentially no more, there is no real excuse for adding that in these days. Nonetheless, it is a good enough title to rent for the weekend, but definitely do not let young kids under ten try it out until they are older.
