Wii Motion Plus: Motion Plus Accessories and Games
The Wii MotionPlus is an add on to the WiiMote that makes its revolutionary controls even more revolutionary! The simple addition takes the controllers ability to track your movement to an entirely different dimension, which changes to face of all new Wii games. I want to show you how all of this works, and some of the games that make use of this fantastic new function.
Out of all of the Nintendo Wii accessories, the Wii MotionPlus has the biggest impact. Originally, the WiiMote roughly captured the movements of the controller through the sensor bar that is placed on the TV or entertainment center. The sensor bar was able to make a general read of whatever direction the control went, but had a hard time with distance and rotation.
Wii MotionPlus, on the other hand, is able to track minute movements with great accuracy. It does this with an advanced accelerometer (the thing that makes touchscreen phones go between portrait and landscape modes) that tracks movements in 360 degrees, including small rotations.
All you need to take advantage of this is the small add-on that plugs into the bottom of the WiiMote. It comes bundled with Wii Sports Resort, and is sold separately. Each MotionPlus comes with a silicone sleeve that is long enough to cover then entire controller and the add-on. If you’ve been using Wii for a while, the add on is so small that you probably won’t even notice that it is there.
Like I said above, the biggest game that takes advantage of this new feature is Wii Sports Resort. It has 12 sports games bundled into one that get you up and out of your seat to play. Games like ping pong, cycling, and bowling are perfect for the entire family, and even those that have never played games before. They are easy enough that rookies will have no problem learning, and get more difficult as they go.
Other games that use Wii Motion Plus are Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, Virtua Tennis 2009, and NHL 2K10. The current sample is not large, but one of the most highly anticipated games of all time, The Legend Of Zelda, that is slated to come out in the fall 2011 will require that players have Wii Motion Plus in order to play.
The Wii MotionPlus is a revolutionary little accessory that takes gameplay for the Nintendo Wii to an entirely different level. As time goes on, more games are going to take advantage of this, and games will never be the same after!
